10/31/07

Today in class we studied the difference between Patriots and Loyalists. We also looked at the Beginning of the Revolution.

HW: Test Friday covering; Lexington and Concord, Moores Creek, and patriots V. Loyalists

10/30/07 Tuesday

Today in class we reviewed our class topics from last week. The Boston Massacre, Boston Tea Party, Edenton Tea Party, Mecklenburg/Halifax Resolves, and the Declaration of Independence. Then we discussed the battles at Lexington and Concord, and the battle at Moores Creek.

HW: Students had to finish the WS "The Fighting Begins"

Today in class we took the Nine week assessment which will be posted on your childs progress reports for the second nine weeks.

We also had the nine week reward.

Thursday 10/25/07

Today in class we will be focusing on three men from North Carolina who signed the Declaration of Independence.

We will also be reviewing for our nine week assessment which will be taken tomorrow in class.

Today in class we will be studying the Halifax/Mecklenburg Resolves and their effects on the colonies going to war with the British. Also we will Watch a reading of the Drecloration of Independence

Today in class we are studying "The Road to the Revolution." What the British did that angered the colonists

Homework: If their class assignment goes unfinished it needs to be completed for homework.

Remember the 8th grade is going to the Bobcats game tomorrow. If your child is going he/she needs to pack some food in addition to what is handed out at the game. From what I hear it is not much.

Today in class I collected the take-home test that was to be completed over the weekend.

We finished the political cartoons/collages and presented in class

Discussed the French and Indian War/ Fort Dobbs

We worked on Political Cartoons/ collages as a review for the take-home test.

Sent home take-home test due in class on Monday.

We are going to spend the next day and a half studying social class of early North Carolina. We are making posters today illustrating social class.

Today all classes will be typing their pirate stories in the computer lab. The final draft is due by the end of class today.

They must have their pirate flag drawn for class on Monday.

Pirate Project

Piracy plays an important part in North Carolina History. Today and Friday, we will be using the computer lab to do independent pirate research.

Directions: There are three parts to this research project(must be completed in this order):

1. Complete the Blackbeard web quest, and print off your online answer sheet.

2. Make your own fictional pirate story(1-2 pages typed, double spaced)

- Your story just include the following components:
a. Name of your pirate
b. Why are they a pirate/how did you become one?
c. Who is their pirate hero, and why?
d. What booty did they plunder?
e. Where do they keep their treasure?
f. Description of their hideout
g. Name of their ship
h. What their flag represents

3. Pirate flag - you will design a pirate flag, based on the description from your fictional story (This will be hand drawn).

Grading (55 points)

  • Webquest(5)
  • Story incorperates all required asoects (35)
  • Length of story - 1-2 pages(5)
  • flag drawn (5)

Deadlines


  • Thursday: webquest must be completed, and printed out
  • Thursday homework: create a rough draft or detailed ouline for your story.
  • Friday: Finish story and type out in class.
  • Friday Homework: Complete your pirate flag.
  • Monday: Pirate Flag is due.
